ContextThe association was founded in 1908, its aim to spread the engineering gospel to a wider public audience and not just the committed engineer. A programme of 6 lectures is organised every year from September to March, an annual general meeting is held in April and the council of the association meets monthly. A news letter is issued annually prior to the start of the lecture season. The lectures have over the years covered every discipline, with subjects ranging from soap and leather to gas turbines, welding research and measurement, televsion to punch card machines. In the late 80's and easrly 90's some high profile lectures were delivered on Trident and the Privatisation of VSEL. These have involved input from some senior VSEL personnel. From October 1967 to June 1979 there is a gap in the records. In recent years the constitution and by-laws of the association have been updated and overall membership stands at abaout 300.
