W A Poucher was the author of a number of books on the Lakeland Fells and mountains in Scotland and Snowdonia. His books describe routes and are illustrated with photographs of the mountains. Poucher was born in 1891. He served a four year apprenticeship as a pharmicist in Horncastle, Lincolnshire before attending the Bath and West of England college of Paramaceutical Society in Bath in 1921. During the First World War, Poucher served as a field pharmacist in the 41st Casulty Clearing Station on the western front. He became a perfumier working for Yardley and was described as Britain's leading cosmetic chemist. Poucher died in Thornthwaite, Cumbria in 1988
