ContextDepositor's note Leon Gould came to Carlisle in December 1911 to open two cinemas, the Stanley Hall, Botchergate, and the Star Picture Hall (later the Rex Cinema), Denton Holme. The Star was the first purpose-built cinema in Carlisle. He died in April 1927, aged 46. His widow carried on the business, together with her daughter (the depositor).
