ContextThe Howard family documents, formerly at Naworth Castle, the Cumberland home of the Earls of Carlisle, were deposited in Durham in 1954 & 1960. These documents were preserved in the Department of Palaeography & Diplomatic, Durham University, until they were transferred to Durham University Library in 1992. The records were subsequently transferred to the Cumbria Archive Centre, Carlisle, in August 2012.
