TitleMillom Pre-school Playgroup
DescriptionPre-School Playgroup scrapbook and attendance register.
Extent2 volumes
Context"Enclosed are papers relating to Millom School in the period 1964-1968. My Dad, John Henry Douglas Bate, was Master of the Lower School from January 1964 to July 1968 when he left to take on a headship at Watford, Herts...
The papers relate to prizegivings, speech days, school shows, carol services and similar. the hand written annotations are in dad's handwriting which was always that difficult to read.
I have a couple of items relating to Millom Pre-School Playgroup which was started by my Mum, Catherine Bate, in 1965. It still operates as the Stepping Stones Nursery. One item is the Attendance Register, in my mother's hand, from 1966 Autumn term where the first entry for "Catherine Bate" is my elder younger sister. She also features in some of the photos which helps date them as she was born on the 24th September 1962 and would be under five years old in the photos. the location of the photos is the Civil Defence Building... in St George's Road next to the Millom Palladium...
the three digit numbers after some of the addresses in the Attendance register are phone numbers...
All the material was discovered when we cleared Mum and Dad's house after Dad died in 2011 and Mum moved to a nursing home in 2013."
